Today is a great day! The fireworks of Fourth of July are still hanging in the air, and I’m featuring Sarah + Nick‘s rustic Door County barn wedding at About Thyme Farm on my blog!
Sarah + Nick live in the windy city with their dog David Bowie (yes!!), and chose to marry in their sentimental vacation destination for years…Door County, Wisconsin, aka a little slice of Cape Cod snuggled along Lake Michigan.
In their own words a la their personalized reception decor at the farm:
“Sarah + Nick first met in August of 1988. The meeting took place just to the left of the building blocks and right in front of the finger-painting easel in Mrs. Moorehead’s preschool class at St. Marys School. Despite their shared affinity for popsicles and nap time, the two didn’t become close friends until they were reunited ten years later during their freshman year at Lake Forest High School.
However, fate wouldn’t bring them together as a couple until 2012, when Nick ran into a mutual friend, discovered Sarah was single, and began pursuing her in earnest. After missed calls and embarrassing Facebook messages, Sarah and Nick finally went on their first date on February 26. The rest, as they say, is history.”
Working with the fantastic Door County Event Planners to keep their wedding day charming and elegant yet rustic, Sarah and Nick selected a new Door County barn venue for their reception, About Thyme Farm. Live chickens included, About Thyme Farm set the tone for a perfect DC getaway for their guests! Door County cherry pie in lieu of cake, chicken-wire escort card holders, chalkboard + wooden signs throughout the farm, abundant florals, farm tables accented with wooden signs and sprigs of rosemary…the setting was the perfect environment for guests to get lost in and enjoy the celebration. Amidst all of the day’s emotion, one of the stand-out moments in my memory remains Sarah’s dad’s speech at dinner, where he whipped out a coupon book Sarah had made him as a kid. Not a dry eye was left in the barn!
